Ethiopia Embraces a New Blueprint for Peace 🌍✨

On April 30 in Addis Ababa, HWPL hosted Ethiopia’s first peacebuilding briefing 🌟. The event introduced the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) 📜 along with peace education 📚 and interfaith dialogue as key strategies. Participants also reviewed sample university curricula and discussed a pilot “Peace Ambassador” program for civil servants.

The briefing recalled the 2024 interreligious clash near Mekelle Square 💔, showing how fragile community relations can be. HWPL stressed that education, lawmaking, and dialogue are needed to heal divisions. A workshop was also held to adjust policies and civic approaches to Ethiopia’s multi-ethnic society, aligning with national peace goals.

Looking forward 🚀, HWPL signed MOUs with the National Civil Service University and the Ethiopian Religious Council. In 2025, three campuses will begin pilot peace education programs, while an “Ethiopian Peace Experts Committee” will guide the localization of the DPCW 🌍. These steps aim to unite Ethiopia’s diverse groups and turn challenges into opportunities for peace.
Côte d’Ivoire Unites for Peace and Solidarity 🌍✨

In Duékoué and Bocanda, leaders, community representatives, and citizens came together in June to strengthen unity and peace. From emphasizing that peace must be nurtured daily through civic responsibility, public participation, and youth education, to highlighting traditional alliances as cultural tools for reconciliation, the gatherings reaffirmed that every citizen has a role in building harmony. HWPL supported these efforts, aligning with its vision that all people can become active agents of peace and social change 💡.
Liberia Partners with HWPL to Bring Peace Education Nationwide 🌍✨

On July 3, HWPL signed a historic MOU with the Peacebuilding Office (PBO) under Liberia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs to introduce peace education nationwide. This agreement is seen as a milestone for institutionalizing peace education across the country and a major step toward building lasting peace. Despite ongoing challenges such as limited youth engagement and the absence of structured peace education, the partnership aims to fill these gaps with a strategic framework for cooperation.

Under the agreement, HWPL and the PBO will launch pilot peace education programs in selected schools, gradually expanding them nationwide. They also plan to establish stronger collaboration between civil society and government agencies to create a more sustainable foundation for peace. During the signing ceremony, Liberia’s Deputy Minister endorsed HWPL’s Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), affirming the government’s commitment to peace.

HWPL highlighted that the MOU reflects both parties’ shared vision of cultivating a culture of peace through education and multilateral cooperation. By empowering youth with conflict resolution skills and encouraging active civic participation, the initiative is expected to inspire a practical peace model that can be replicated throughout Liberia and beyond 🌟.
