HWPL Peace Education with Greece

HWPL’s peace education is global. It is worth noting that it creates a change of thought that can achieve ‘peace’ by finding the commonalities of each country’s culture.

The textbook made by HWPL also contains information about Greece. In Peace Textbook 9 and Section 1-‘Courtesy of Parents,’ it is explained that loving and honoring parents beyond the differences of time, region, and culture is a universal value of all mankind.

In particular, it is emphasized that remembering and paying back the love and kindness given by parents is a characteristic that only humans have.

There is an ancient Greek anecdote about this filial piety. Greece is famous for having a strict culture of respect for the elderly and parents since ancient times.

For example, in ancient Delphi, people who did not take care of their parents were imprisoned.

In Athens, a person who neglected his or her parents was fined and some citizenship was deprived.

Greek proverbs such as “Old people’s words weigh heavily” and “Those who respect their parents never die” reflect a deep-rooted culture of respect for parents and the elderly.

As such, peace education by utilizing proverbs and examples of each country is a great advantage.

Georgia teacher said, “I loved the textbooks prepared for peace education,” adding, “It contains a variety of colors and various information and activities.” “HWPL’s peace education textbooks are made in a more understandable language considering the level of children and teenagers,” he said. “The HWPL peace education textbooks are also very important because they have clear guidelines on what teachers should do.”

After nine weeks of training, Georgia’s teachers took pride in HWPL peace education more than anyone else. “HWPL’s certificate of teacher training is now my pride,” she said.

In fact, students who received peace education also responded positively.

After receiving peace education, one student said, “I realized that I was special,” adding, “I have to be with people who are valuable and make me feel good about myself.”

“I think the Chairman Man hee Lee is an inspirational and charismatic person who can do anything to bring peace to the world,” Georgia teacher said. “I think HWPL is a great organization with great educational materials and plans and is ready to support every step of the way.”

However, many people are suffering from war, famine, a gap between the rich and the poor, environmental pollution, and more all over the world due to human greed and selfishness.

This is a really serious problem. But at the same time, it is also true that no one can handle it. We must let go of each other’s greed.

HWPL Peace Education in Ethiopia

Is Ethiopia peaceful?

Compared with many African countries, Ethiopia is remarkably safe – most of the time. Serious or violent crime is rare; against travellers it’s extremely rare. Outside the capital, the risk of petty crime drops still further. The new Prime Minister was Abiy Ahmed, 2019 Nobel Peace Prize Winner, who made a historic visit to Eritrea in 2018, ending the state of conflict between the countries.

Ethiopia is a melting pot country, enriched in diverse cultures, peoples, and religions. However, such diversity sparked many conflicts in history, some of which are ongoing. These conflicts have stripped the country and people apart emotionally, and the Ethiopian government is actively working to peacefully resolve them for the better future of the country.

In December, the professors and students at Kotebe Metropolitan University participated at the ‘Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) Peace Education’ sessions which are also joined by 214 schools in 36 countries.

To bring the peaceful reconciliation in the country, the Ministry of Education in Ethiopia and 9 other states had previously signed MOA with HWPL to implement HWPL’s Peace Education. The curriculum is designed to empower citizens to properly recognize the value of peace and take the pioneering role of spreading the culture of peace.

After signing MOA with HWPL, the Ministry of Higher Education in Ethiopia is currently reviewing the ‘HWPL Peace Education’ to incorporate and implement it as formal curriculum in all the universities. Addis Ababa School of Science and Technology (AASTU) also held the peace education sessions right after the Kotebe Metropolitan University.

A student who participated at the peace education said, “I learned why peace education is important for resolving conflicts in Ethiopia. It taught me to act as a messenger of peace. It is also important to present 10 Articles and 38 Clauses of the DPCW to the UN to fundamentally eradicate war and conflicts. To this end, we must continue to participate in peace education.”

80 students make a colorful march

What comes to your mind when you think about your school days? What did you do? I think all I did was eating, studying and playing with my friends.

DPCW Article 10
: Spreading the Culture of Peace

A STEP TOWARDS PEACE 80 students make a colorful march United Nations Day Philippines manheelee peace biography HWPL Peace education HWPL DPCW Bethel Knox

To celebrate United Nations Day, 24 October, students of Bethel Knox paraded in a variety of costumes representing different cultures and nations. Paraders dressed in respective national dresses marched and chanted, “Spread the culture of peace,” the title of the 10th article of the DPCW, stirring air of hope amongst the audience for a world united with peace.

There is a reason why this is more meaningful. The Philippines has a history of many conflicts and wars. So people have a longing for peace in their hearts. These are expressed in children’s pure behavior. What happens when these kids grow up? Will the world change?

Philippines is changing

Bethel Knox students recently started taking the HWPL Peace Education program, and their faces gleamed with excitement and anticipation for a future of peace throughout the event. Bethel Knox is offering the HWPL Peace Education program to inspire students with the spirit of peace and nurture future peace activists.

Peace Education is set to serve as a building block to bring people of diverse ethnicities and cultures together to call for peace. Students who finish the Peace Education courses will become the beacon of a brighter and more peaceful future.

After the parade, students presented dance performances to celebrate “a day of marching toward peace,” followed by a multicultural feast with international cuisines including a boodle fight, a traditional Filipino meal.

I hope that this will serve as an opportunity to think about what we can do about peace. 🙂 Supporting DPCW is one way.

The strength of the DPCW is simplicity and it’s very accommodative with the existing norms. So this is its strength and very confident that if the DPCW is well read and well understood by the global community, then we can build a consensus for putting more effort into building peace in the world.”

Yemeni Civil War (2015 – present)

In 2014, Houthi rebels took control of the capital Sana’a and a large portion of northern Yemen. President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and his cabinet fled to neighboring Saudi Arabia, where a Saudi-led coalition was formed to counter the Houthi rebellion. The Yemeni Civil War started. It is a humanitarian catastrophe. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) estimates that 14.1 million civilians are dangerously close to starvation.

  Total killed                    :         50,000+
  Civilians killed             :            6,592

  Displaced                        :    3,154,572

A child dies in Yemen every 10 minutes from preventable causes, including severe acute malnutrition and vaccine-preventable disease. There are many complex problems. With the economy in free-fall, parents cannot afford to feed their children. Also water, health care and sanitation all collapsed.

Yemen Peace Education of Children

Nevertheless, the children of Yemen wish that the fighting would stop. They have dreams of peace. They want to go to school and play in the park like children of other countries. I am deeply sorry for their story.

12-year-old Ala’a says “Peace means we don’t hear people talk about war. It means on TV I can watch cartoons instead of watching people die.” She teaches us many things. “I would like to tell them, ‘Do not kill our dreams.’ Stop the war so we can enjoy our childhood and achieve our dreams.” It is a real Peace Education. What can we do for them?

“Children have suffered terribly during more than three years of conflict — at least 6,000 have been killed or seriously injured by the fighting, while over 11 million need humanitarian assistance to survive.”

3 Peace Initiative : HWPL Peace Education

Despite the many differences that exist between individuals, we should all live in harmony in the global village; however, war and conflict currently threaten the lives and safety of all. In order to end war and inherit everlasting peace in the future, we must teach the values necessary for a new era of peace rather than the old ideology that has been stained by war.

HWPL Peace Education’s vision is to enlighten students and cultivate talented individuals with the values and spirit of peace, who can then play a pioneering role in spreading the culture of peace. This education provides a fundamental understanding of the basic principles that human beings must observe for peace to be created. Through the discovery and internalization of these peace values the inner selves of students and their ability to live together in harmony with others in their own community, and even the world, is properly nurtured.

In order to successfully cultivate children and young people as peacemakers, HWPL Peace Education first works to erase previously held ideas and values that are corrupt by directly showing how the world has become evil in the present era, and then plant the peaceful values needed for the new era of peace in their stead. It also introduces a new methodology in which the values of peace can be applied in all environments and real-life situations happening outside the classroom.
