Despite the ongoing conflict, hope is growing across classrooms in Ukraine. More than 120 teachers gathered online to complete the Second Peace Education Training Course organized by the international peace NGO HWPL.

For two months, educators from kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, and universities across 18 regions — including the capital, Kyiv — took part in this program. Through the training, they became certified peace educators, equipped to lead peace classes for children and youth.

As a result, these teachers are now introducing lessons that teach not only academic knowledge but also compassion, cooperation, and understanding — values essential for rebuilding a peaceful society. 🌍

The HWPL Peace Education curriculum is a structured program consisting of 12 thematic lessons that help students understand peace as a way of life.

Participants learned age-specific teaching methods, analyzed HWPL’s official textbooks, and even created their own peace-based lesson plans. After completing the final exam, they earned a certification that allows them to teach official peace education courses and participate in international conferences and seminars.

The course was hosted by HWPL — an NGO registered with the UN ECOSOC and UN DGC — and supported by Alfred Nobel University along with over 30 educational institutions and civic organizations.

This collaboration demonstrates how peace education can be institutionalized even amid national turmoil, ensuring that peace is not just a dream, but a discipline that can be taught. ✨

❤️ Teachers Who Believe in the Power of Peace

Surveys showed that 99% of participating teachers agreed peace lessons are essential for students. Many shared how the curriculum transformed classroom dynamics:

“Peace must be taught from kindergarten to university,” one educator noted. “It should be included in the national curriculum.”

Another teacher shared,

“When we introduced dialogue and non-violent communication techniques, conflicts among students dropped dramatically. They started listening and understanding one another.”

Their shared conviction was simple yet profound:

“If we don’t teach peace to our children, someone else will teach them hate.”

These stories reflect not only individual growth but also a collective awakening — a belief that peace education can be the strongest weapon against division and despair. 🌱

🌍 From Ukraine to the World: A Growing Peace Movement

HWPL’s Peace Education is now active in 88 countries, implemented in over 600 schools and supported by 26 national governments and education ministries. More than 2,400 teachers worldwide have earned international certification.

Since 2020, Ukraine has been one of the model countries for this initiative, partnering with six regional education departments, three universities, and twenty-three schools. Each year, about 1,000 Ukrainian students experience peace education firsthand — learning empathy and coexistence even while their nation faces conflict.

Educators around the world echo a shared vision:

“HWPL Peace Education changes hearts — it transforms students into global citizens who act for peace.”

As one regional HWPL leader remarked, “Because you plant the seeds of peace in children’s hearts today, the young generation of Ukraine will rebuild their country with harmony when the war ends.”

Indeed, peace begins not on the battlefield, but in the classroom — where every lesson, every story, and every act of kindness becomes a seed for tomorrow’s peace. 🌟
