Why Peace Education Matters 🌍
Education shapes not only knowledge but also behavior. Because of this, peace education is gaining global attention. At the 2025 Global Peace Education Conference, held during the 11th HWPL 9.18 Peace Summit Anniversary, educators asked a direct question: “If schools adopt peace education, can global conflicts decrease?”
The event showed a strong answer. Peace education is not optional. Instead, it is a key foundation for solving conflicts. It helps protect human rights. It also guides children to grow into responsible citizens.
Zambia: From Pilot Project to National Action 💡
Zambia has enjoyed peace since independence. However, challenges such as child marriage and drugs continued. Because of this, HWPL launched a pilot program in Kanyama in 2024. The outcome was clear.
- Students became more aware of peace.
- Local communities saw fewer cases of child marriage and drug use.
As a result, the program expanded across Lusaka. The Ministry of Education, HWPL, and school leaders are now working together. They plan to institutionalize peace education.
In addition, they are preparing a Peace Teacher Certification System. This step will ensure trained teachers can guide future generations.
Mongolia: Bridging Gaps Through Lifelong Learning ✨
Mongolia faces another challenge. Rapid urbanization has created education gaps between cities and rural ger areas. To respond, Mongolia introduced peace education through lifelong learning centers in partnership with HWPL.
In total, 71 teachers from 27 institutions received training. Among them, 13 schools officially adopted peace lessons. In addition, the program supports UNESCO recommendations. This shows that peace education can connect with national and global policy goals.
More importantly, Mongolia’s case proves that peace education changes more than knowledge. It reshapes values, attitudes, and daily actions. Therefore, peace education becomes a culture that reaches across generations.
Global Expansion and Results ❤️
The work of HWPL has moved far beyond pilot programs. It now reaches the world. To date, HWPL has signed 1,012 MOUs with institutions in 112 countries. In 2025 alone, 315 new partnerships were added.
One example stands out. In East Timor, universities nationwide adopted HWPL’s peace textbooks. This shows that peace education can grow from local programs into official national policy.
In addition, other nations continue to explore peace teacher training, new school partnerships, and legal support. As a result, the global momentum for peace education grows stronger every year.

The conference ended with a shared vision. Peace education should expand from small trials to national systems. This includes adding it to public schools, training certified teachers, and connecting it with law and policy.
