Spain Catalan crisis : The power of culture

What’s up, Catalonia?

Catalonia is a part of the Spanish state for centuries. But amazing thing is that they have own distinct language and culture. It is not easy. I will talk about it again, but it is really amazing. Here I will more talk about the international situation. It can say ‘Spain Catalan crisis‘ Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont is under intense pressure to drop plans to break from Spain. How EU react? The European Union has made it clear that if Catalonia split from Spain, Catalonia would cease to be part of the EU. What it means? They can’t travel freely between member states and kick out of the Eurozone.

“Do you want Catalonia to become an independent state in the form of a republic?”

90% of voters are backing independence. Turnout was put at 43%.

The vote was deemed illegal by Madrid and Spain’s Constitutional Court. So there is ‘Armed intervention‘ of National police. Spain think it is a rebellion against the rule of law. And the rule of law is the foundation of coexistence, not only in Spain but in Europe.”

My view : The power of culture

There are thousands of perspectives. Political, economic and etc. But I want to say cultural view point. I talk about it excluding political, economic perspectives. I only say ‘Culture‘. Why do Catalonia want to become independent? Why do some want it and some don’t want?(I’m not saying that independent culture is better) They have own distinct language and culture. It has its own language, a recorded history of more than 1,000 years as a distinct region, and a population nearly as big as Switzerland’s (7.5 million). I want to say ‘Culture make people one-mind’. Don’t miss your culture. 🙂 It is nice to live in culture.

Doing good better : Apply to Peace Movement

It is a book of altruism. Have you ever think about good will? Sometimes I want the world to change better, don’t you? If so, I take an example. One man want to do something for children of the Third World countries. He get great ideas! ‘A wheel pump‘ He imagine children romping with water. This project received worldwide attention. It raises large sums of money. They can supply lot of wheel pumps to the Third World countries. So, what happened? Doing good better?

It is really uncomfortable

Many international organizations point out the flaw and families of the Third World complained. It is very ineffective than hand pump. The project suddenly went to smash. Although efforts are great, It’s a big waste of time and money.

Effective Altruism can change the world

A practical, data-driven approach to doing good makes a tremendous difference. Not only charity, It can apply to peace movements. This book throw a question. “How can I make the biggest difference I can?” Like this question, if you cry out peace, all peace movements are not effective and practical. We should measure this impact accurately. There is an peace movement that is highly acclaimed at home and abroad. HWPL‘s peace movements are very practical and substantive. DPCW(Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War) is already declared. Now, presidents only have to sign up. Or come up with something better.

It is first anniversary of a child refugee’s Death. Do you remember ‘Alan Kurdi‘?

He is a child refugee. Last year he became enormously famous. Because he appeared dead on the beach. While trying to go to Europe to avoid civil war, his mother(35) and his brother(5) were drowned. Then all the world wanted to help the refugees.

Then, all over the world feel responsible and weep together, but after 2 years the situation was developing tragically. The people don’t want refugees, immigrants and Muslim because of fear of terror attack. Actually I understand it. I’m also horrible. But we can’t turn our face away. In fact I turn away many times. I’m sorry to say that, I’m sorry. Now writing, I’m thinking a little about refugees. But soon I go back to my daily routine. I’m sorry to Krudi, Alan’s father whose everyday is painful.

End War : Our mission

Krudi, Alan’s father cry out that anyone can be refugee and call sympathy for immigrants, not only child refugee. He said “After Alan, thousands of child refugee dead. The solution of refugee problem is to end war. Stop talking! It is time to put up or shut up. We must end War that is a root cause of refugee. Refugees want to go home”

North Korea nuclear : Peace Messenger, Together

North Korea nuclear program : H-bomb

In 2017 September, 5.6 magnitude earthquake occurred at North Korea. Have telephone calls without a break. “is it a nuclear? War? Is it a just earthquake?” That’s right. The North’s sixth nuclear test took place. What nuclear? It is the hydrogen bomb. It has tremendous destructive power. That is 3,800 times of atomic bomb blast on Hiroshima. Also it lead to condemnation from around the world. North Korea nuclear.

I sometimes have an anger at North Korea. If they hurt innocent people, I can’t forgive them. But at times I thank for North Korea. They made us recognize the need for peace. Our hearts will be one before long. We need practical and substantive approach for peace. It is not a small thing, Peace. I have full of mind for peace! So, I find out what we can do! I find “Peace Messengers Together” ‘Legislate Peace Campaign‘ was active to present DPCW to the United Nations.(campaign page) Now 300,000 people is moving fast. For Peace!

ECO Campaign : Restore Renew Nature’s Green

Greenery : Color trend of the Year 2017

“Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone’s color consulting arm, said. Why Greenery? It is a symbolic color of ECO campaign. What do you think about ‘ECO‘? Eco-friendly goods are more popular. These days, some of my friends have a lot of concern for the environment. So I write this posting 🙂

ECO Campaign : Change the World

There is a flock of ideas. First, Green roof. Noted that there were so much effect. Absorbing rainwater, Providing insulation, Decreasing stress of the people and Helping to lower urban air temperatures and mitigate the heat island effect. Second, Vertical forest(Bosco Verticale) project. It is a pair of residential towers in the Porta Nuova district of Milan, Italy. It is just a tower. Tree tower! This vertical forest has 900 trees(550 and 350 trees respectively). It has the same effect of 7,000 square meter forest. It’s so amazing!

Barcelona terror protest : “We are not afraid”

Barcelona terror protest : What you afraid?

Do you know what happened? On August, 500,000 people gathered in Barcelona. It is the ‘Barcelona terror protest’. This is no small thing. They shouted “We are not afraid”! When looking at people, they wanted something. What do you see? I can see a mature sense of citizenship. They really want peace. They heartily comfort victim and families of the victims. I’ll tell you what happened. Teens and twenties rammed a van into pedestrians walking along Las Ramblas killing 15 and injuring more than 100. What’s more cool? Their slogan is #Imnotafraid #NoTincPor.

Who doesn’t fear the voice of the people?

I think it seems to be the global trend. The people convey our determination exactly and maturely. For example, In Korea 2,300,000 people gathered every week for their country. It’s my posting 1, posting 2. And In the world many people march for Peace! Those who walked for peace! How cool they are! What can we do more about World peace?

I think we ought to follow the example. Barcelona terror protest is a good example with above examples. Maybe we can think 500,000 people is a lot. In fact, It is not. How many people in Barcelona! It is not many people. What are we afraid of? The indifference of the people. That is what we need to be afraid of. Let’s walk together 🙂

Jurgen Hinzpeter : We don’t forget you

We thank the Gwang-ju people for upholding my husband’s wish to be buried here. He would be proud and thankful.” We don’t forget you. So we made a film ‘A taxi driver’ for him. It has more than ten million viewers now. Thank you very much indeed. Thank you. We can’t forget. Now the truth resounded through the world. Now, it is not a mob disturbance. It is the Gwang-ju Democratization Movement on May 18, 1980. Thank you.

Dead White helmet : Peace is the path

It is really a shocking news. I have had an eye on Nobel Peace Prize candidates because I have a lot of interest in peace. What news? 7 members of ‘White Helmet‘ were killed by unidentified armed men. I don’t know how many. They were shot in the head. Do you know what it means? “Execution” What kind of crime? The international community is angry. It is even more because 7 members are private volunteers who worked tirelessly to save lives in an extraordinarily dangerous environment. We should make it as an opportunity. 7 Dead White helmet is not dead.

War is a cowardly escape from the problems of peace. – Thomas Mann

What is their will?

The best way to commemorate their deaths is to follow their will. It is unnecessary to talk many things. If we don’t do anything, we should be more angry. So, what is their will? White helmet is made up of Tailor, bakers, carpenters, electricians and other over 3,000 people. Their goal is to save anyone hurt. They claim to advocate moderation. Eventually, what they most wanted is peace. “A world free from wars” Anton Chekhov said ‘We shall find peace. We shall hear the angels, we shall see the sky sparkling with diamonds’ I didn’t want their death to be in vain. Dead White helmets must be alive in our heart.

How we can do it?

We already know that war settles nothing and to win a war is as disastrous as to lose one.(Agatha Christie) Actions are necessary now, not words. We should really achieve peace. National Liberation Day [Korea] : Meaning

After 72 years : How are you?

In 1945, Korea gained independence. It is called by ‘National Liberation Day’. Independence is a moving word. I know it after I saw many movies. But it is a brief amount of time. I settle into a routine again and again. My concern is how I could earn a living, how to go out and how to know what I want to do. It may be too small pricks. I can say “The past is past and the today is today. We have new problems on our plate. Our lives are tough too.” I know it. And I know it too. Actually they don’t want to blame to us. Sometimes I want to explain myself. I want to say “It’s not my fault.” I know it. But we must move forward.

What should we do?

광복 : Restoration of Light

National Liberation Day of Korea is called ‘Gwangbokjeol, 광복절’. ‘광복‘ means ‘Restoration of Light’. What it means? Why is this? ‘Liberation’ and ‘Restoration of Light’ mean same? You can think it is a little bit abstract. Restoration means “In the past, all dark” I read an article. It’s really nice. So I scrap it. “To commemorate Independence Day is to truly realize and know what independence means in real life. With this, it is possible to start a true independence for the future. A world without discrimination – righteousness and justice exist and breathe – this is the place where everyone needs to strive together to achieve, and truly become the owners of independence.” This evening I’m more sentimental.

Peace studies : ‘United Nations and the Art of Peace’

I’m studying Peace

What was your major in college? Me? I majored in ‘peace’. …? Department of Peace? Is there such a thing? To be exact, It’s name is the department of ‘United Nations and the art of peace’. UNITAR(The United Nations Institute for Training and Research), WFUNA(World Federation of United Nations Associations) and Kyunghee University worked together to develop this master´s degree. “Fostering experts and hands-on workers in the field of Peace studies” is why it was created. Oh Joon, Ambassador to the U.N, is appointed by a full-time professor.

Why Peace studies?

Civil war and terrorism were surging since 2000. 500,000 people were killed every year. One day? 1,300! It is estimated that 90 % of the casualties caused by war is the civilian. Almost all of them are women and children. Longing for peace is more growing in the nervous international community. So World’s leading universities offer the course of peace studies. This is why. Actually it is very hard to achieve peace. Because it can’t achieve by one man. It is a problem of culture and level of consciousness. I guess Spinoza want to say something to you. “Peace is not the absence of war, but a virtue based on strength of character.” It is hard but we can do it! United Nations and the art of peace!
