What were born here? ‘The mateship Mateship is a code of conduct and concept that can be traced back to early colonial times. The harsh environment in which new settlers found themselves meant that men and women closely relied on each other for all sorts of help. In Australia, a ‘mate‘ is more than just a friend and is a term that implies a sense of shared experience, mutual respect and unconditional assistance.(Wiki)

The very success of ‘mateship‘ in Australia eroded individualism. In a sense mateship was a protection against individualism…it is probably one of the most characteristic folk beliefs of Australia. There is concern for the ordinariness in Australians. Consider Anzac Day again – men in their ordinary clothes, marching through the streets out of step, unpretentious; and then getting drunk in the most ordinary manner imaginable. It is a celebration of the essential ordinariness and the common human-ness of man.” – DONALD, HORNE – Southern Exposure

Tall poppy syndrome & Underdog

A STEP TOWARDS PEACE [Australia diary] Mateship is our identity Underdog Tall poppy syndrome multicultural mateship Gold rush egalitarian disadvantage Australian anti-hierarchical     One result of the prevalence of the “mateship” culture is that Australian society is stringently anti-hierarchical. Australians are expected to behave with humility and not think of themselves as better than their peers. Any disloyalty to their “mates” is treated harshly, and is known as the tall poppy syndrome, where people who grow greater than their peers are harshly criticised as being narcissistic, or “up themselves”. Mirroring the tall poppy syndrome which brings back to ordinary, the egalitarian Australian society has a traditional Australian support for the “underdog.” Australians will show support for those who appear to be at a disadvantage even when the underdog is competing against fellow Australians, such as in sporting events.

I love underdogs, people who have achieved extraordinary things against the odds.” – Phil Keoghan

– Bruce Chatwin, The Songlines

“The Australians, it seems to me, thrive on their remoteness from the world and see it as a way of keeping up a code of “No worries, mate,” while peddling their oddities to visitors: nonconformity is at once a fact of life for many, and a selling point.” – Pico Iyer, Falling Off the Map

“The most enjoyable and rewarding experiences I have had on my travels have not involved queues. They have been when I broke away from the crowds and spent time with a local, tried new food, and learned about a different culture. That is the true heart of travelling.”
– Michael Turtle, Time Travel Turtle

It’s about living a full life, being connected to the present moment, experiencing unbridled joy and creating and sharing profound memories.”

[Book review] The ONE Thing : Apply to me

The ONE Thing : Apply to me

“What’s your one thing?” This book started by One focusing question. Before the review, I came to think about myself while reading a book. I have a momentum to read this book. There was always something to be said among those around me who knew me. What’s so much to do? Isn’t it hard? Each time I answered, “I must not miss even one of them. I can try harder. There must be something to learn from this! This experience will give me a lot of strength later!” But people around me trusted me and also worried about me. Do you know what my problem is?

“I failed to do anything important that I have to do.
I have tried hard but I have no result.”

Same as me : Throw away! Choose! Focus!

A STEP TOWARDS PEACE [Book review] The ONE Thing : Apply to me What's your one thing? The ONE Thing priority no result my problem Multitasking is a lie Jay Papasan Gary Keller focusing question Focusing Apply to me 66 days     The writers of this book are Gary W. Keller and Jay Papasan. “If everyone has the same number of hours in the day, why do some people seem to get so much more done than others? How do they do more, achieve more, earn more, have more?” The answer is that they do not work more and more. They are throwing away, choosing and focusing! Oh no, they do fewer things than others. They do the most important things first efficiently. The authors said, “Multitasking is a lie” and “Long hours spent checking off a to-do list and ending the day with a full trash can and a clean desk are not virtuous and have nothing to do with success.” In fact, the most important thing remains. Apply it to me! It is my one thing! It takes 66 days to form Strong One habit.

Think Big! Throw away! Choose by priority! Focusing!
I will come back after 66 days.

Harvard tips for Efficiency

A STEP TOWARDS PEACE Harvard tips for Efficiency 猪俣武範 Visualization of objectives successful man Small victory MBA Lean study Improvement Harvard tips Harvard Medical School Habituation Eliminate wastes efficiency bottom line Boston MBA at the same time    There is a man self-confident. His friends continued to ask him. “How can you do these things?” “How did you study?” He seemed to try to decide whether to say something or not. What on earth did he do? He has never been gone abroad. But he taught himself to enter Harvard Medical School. Even more shocking was that he attended Harvard and earned his MBA from the University of Boston. He did doctoral work on weekdays and on weekends did E-MBA course at the same time, although his native language is not English. Now I wonder ‘How can?’ It is efficiency.

The bottom line is “efficiency”

(Above video is not related with this man) The answer is efficiency. The bottom line is efficiency. ‘Getting the best performance during a limited time’ is the book of 猪俣武範. He said the ‘Lean‘ study methods. This method was adopted by Toyota to enhance its efficiency of production. “Visualization of objectives-Eliminate wastes-Improvement-Habituation-Small victory” But it’s no use not applying all this to me. You can know the reason if you think about the process of writing a book. They didn’t hit the ground running, saying ‘I must write the book of ‘lean’ study method’ from the beginning. In contrast, It’s quite natural process. They have changed myself first. They applied it to themselves furiously, then turned around back. He is a successful man!

Family Medicine : My Hope, My Dream

What is Family Medicine?

A STEP TOWARDS PEACE Family Medicine : My Hope, My Dream WONCA Why do Family Medicine GP FP FM Family Medicine     In wikipedia, Family medicine (FM), formerly family practice (FP), is a specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages; the specialist is named a family physician or family doctor. Family practice is a division of primary care that provides continuing and comprehensive health care for the individual and family across all ages, genders, diseases, and parts of the body. For family doctor, the patient is not just people who have disease. For example, otorhinolaryngologist(ear-nose-and-throat department) can see only nose of patients. But it doesn’t mean that it really is. It’s just a figure of speech. Family doctor can see the patients in the context of the human, the family and the community.

The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for. We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love. There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love. The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty — it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There’s a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.
― Mother Teresa, A Simple Path: Mother Teresa

Why do Family Medicine? Possibilities.

According to the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), the aim of family medicine is to provide personal, comprehensive, and continuing care for the individual in the context of the family and the community. My hope and dream is to visit every house for treating. If going home, I can know about more of the patients. I can have a deeper understanding of a patient’s life and can pinpoint the cause. “It is not only when you are sick that you should see a doctor.” It is the era of prevention and early detection beyond just treatment. It is so hard to go to every one of them, but I think it will be a new way of medicine!

I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant: I will not be ashamed to say “I know not,” nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient’s recovery.” – Hippocratic Oath

TSUTAYA bookstore “Propose A New Lifestyle”

Muneaki Masuda : Who is he?

When I went to bookstore yesterday, I can see his book. On the spot, I read more than half of it. If you want to know what I say, you should watch the youtube. TSUTAYA bookstore is a famous tourist attraction to visit in Japan. He is the CEO of it. Muneaki Masuda was born in Hirakata City, Osaka Prefecture in 1951. He currently serves as the President and CEO of Culture Convenience Club(CCC), which operates TSUTAYA and T Card. After founding TSUTAYA BOOKS in 1983, he established Culture Convenience Club in 1985. He also opened “Daikanyama T-SITE”, including Daikanyama TSUTAYA BOOKS, in Daikanyama, Tokyo in December 2011 to propose a new lifestyle to people in their premier age (adults in their fifties or older). Mr. Masuda is instrumental in planning and creating cultural infrastructure in people’s lives.

I like the ‘Planning’. And I think it is a driving force to lead a life of its own. What is interesting is that Philosophy of Culture Convenience Club(CCC) dipped naturally in everywhere of Daikanyama T-SITE. (In their homepage) “planning” means creating new mechanisms with the potential to spark revolutionary lifestyle changes. So Muneaki Masuda try to think in our customer’s shoes over and over. In fact, I know many people who say like this and even I can say like this. But I can’t see anyone who really acts like this. So it can provide ‘lifestyle recommendation service’. I can feel it in ‘Daikanyama T-SITE’. It is “The 20 Most Beautiful Bookstores in the World“. But they surpass only bookstore. “You can not grow up by doing the same thing over and over again”, Muneaki Masuda said. In his books, there is a lot of evidence left of his sincerity and concern. From now on, TSUTAYA bookstore is my role-model.

Letters to Me #10 : Humble & Arrogance

What is humility?

A STEP TOWARDS PEACE Letters to Me #10 : Humble & Arrogance work far harder wholeheartedly the values the most important thing thankful most valuable immature hated God gratitude grateful God acknowledge betrayed arrogance appreciated     Why did I do hard? What shall I do this for? At first, it was because I found the most valuable thing. It was so much fun, happy, and I’m fun to learn. At that times, I was at a loss for the confusion of values. But after setting up the values, everything was so transparent. So I want to work wholeheartedly. My goal is always to work far harder. What I want to compliment myself on is that I have been wanted to work hard for a long time. But I was immature in many things. First, I tried to do it on my own. Second, I want to establish my own righteousness. Third, the most important thing is that I misunderstood the will of god. No matter what happened, I could not be grateful and hated God.

What would God acknowledge? We truly must become the light of the world. We are destined to be the world-class light. Let us become the light that reveals God’s glory. And let us fulfill all the filial duty as God’s children so that God receives all the glory forever.

What is arrogance?

A STEP TOWARDS PEACE Letters to Me #10 : Humble & Arrogance work far harder wholeheartedly the values the most important thing thankful most valuable immature hated God gratitude grateful God acknowledge betrayed arrogance appreciated     So what is arrogance? I thought I have a good faith. But in tough situations, I could not be grateful and hated God. Why couldn’t I be thankful? Because I’m higher than God. Obviously there was a will of God, but I never thought about it. And I didn’t know anything about God’s thoughts and feelings. How painful the God is! He have been betrayed by a man for 6,000 years now. When I think of this, my situation is nothing and I am glad to understand the heart of God a little. When I received everything as gratitude, everything is appreciated. Now who should I be? I want to be the man who the God acknowledge.

We have to work far beyond our ability. Always being out on the edge is where heaven will help us. That’s faith.
