How was this year? When you look back on this year, how do you feel? Can it be a fruitful New year? If its problem is converted to ‘I’, It is a very hard problem. Sometimes I really don’t want to look back. Maybe I don’t want to face me. I just avoid it by saying that I don’t have any time to look back. Our thoughts and our words is not just what it appears to be. It depends on our fundamental things. For example, maybe you can’t think like ‘I can do something’. Why do you think like this? It depends on your faith to you, confidence, belief. These invisible and fundamental things is hard to be changed. That’s why it’s more valuable and more important.
For Fruitful New Year
Can you make your New year more fruitful? Are you confident? You think you can do anything? Or you think you can do nothing? From a personal standpoint, neither are important. Confidence isn’t not proportional to your fruitful New year. The problem is fundamental. International companies like Google, Amazon and Facebook already carry on fundamental things. ‘Growth mindset‘ of Kelly McGonigal is famous. Also Meditation, MBSR(Mindfulness-Based-Stress-Reduction program) and Logotherapy are conducted. Actually, so many people suggested the solution. The answers are overflowing. Just I hope you will follow your heart. In Nietzsche, you encounters a dragon, and “Thou Shalt”(meaning “you shall”) glitters on its scales. Kill the dragon. And you become the child.
Clostridium difficile (also called C. difficile) is a bacteria which can cause inflammation. It is known as ‘colitis’ in the large intestine or colon. If you get antibiotics, you can maybe get ‘C. difficile Colitis’. It can be said ‘Opportunistic infection‘. It means an infection caused by pathogens that take advantage of an opportunity not normally available, such as a host with a weakened immune system. C. difficile is infectious. C. difficile Colitis is common in old patients who are in hospitals and who are getting chemotherapy for cancer. I will show you antibiotics more in detail.
“Medicine is not only a science; it is also an art. Its does not consist of compounding pills and plasters; it deals with the very processes of life, which must be understood before they may be guided.” – Paracelsus
Causing antibiotics
Clindamycin and Methicillin have side effects that can cause C. difficile Colitis. I will introduce action mechanisms, characteristics and side effects of each antibiotics. First, Clindamycin binds to 23S rRNA of 50S(bacterial ribosome) to reduce synthesis of protein to. It can treat Anaerobic bacteria infection. Its side effect is, we already know, a C. difficile Colitis. Second, Methicillin irreversiblybinds to transpeptidase of bacteria to inhibit cross linking of murein polymer. It is a 2nd generation penicillin which can be used for Skin and soft tissue and MSSA(Methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus). Its side effects are ‘Hypersensitivity’, ‘Neurotoxicity’ and ‘C. difficile Colitis'(by Oral).
Treating antibiotics
Vancomycin and Fidaxomicin can treat C. difficile Colitis. Action mechanisms, characteristics and side effects are here. First, Vancomycin inhibits Murein polymerization to inhibit synthesis of cell wall. It can be used for Gram (+) bacteria. Its effects depend on IV and Oral administration. With IV administration, It can treat MRSA(Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). With Oral administration, It can treat ‘Pseudomembranous colitis’ of C. difficile. Side effects are ‘Red man syndrome’, ‘Nephrotoxicity’ and ‘Ototoxicity’. Second, Fidaxomicin binds to RNA polymerase to inhibit ‘initiation stage’ of RNA synthesis. It can treat C. difficile Colitis and its side effects are ‘Nausea’, ‘Vomiting’ and ‘Abdominal pain’.
“I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant: I will not be ashamed to say “I know not,” nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient’s recovery.” – Hippocratic Oath
The World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (3rd WARP) Summit, which was first held in 2014, has been held annually in Seoul. Each year, influential people from all around the world meet in South Korea. HWPL was acknowledged for substantial and practical way to achieve peace. Actually, people who come to the Peace Festival are all moving. They can feel ‘Peace waves‘, which also be called ‘the heart of peace’, deep down in the heart. This time, I introduce ‘Peace parade‘ and finale ‘Arirang of Peace‘ performance. The peace parade showed how global peace is being achieved in accordance with the 10 articles and 38 clauses of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War.
Hidden heroes of the 3rd WARP
Parade Art Production Team Leader Dongwoo Han
Q. You are creating a tank and a unification train. Which part of this should be viewed carefully?
“In the case of the tank, a key point to take notice of is how the cold and lethal weapons of death are transformed into agricultural tools that help people and give them joy. So, it becomes a world where there are no longerany weapons that kill people. In the case of the unification train, it shows how the unification of Korea, which is the world’s only divided nation, is able to give hope.
This is symbolized by the creation of a unification train which would allow people to go anywhere, not caring whether it is in South or North.”
Parade Art Production Team member Minjeong Kim
Q. What inspired you to produce this piece?
“During the proclamation of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War, Chairman Lee of HWPL stated that we must not create weapons that are to be used for war any longer, but instead should transform them into tools that are beneficial for humanity. These ideas have been a great inspiration for my work.
So, the main gun on the top of the tank was replaced with a golden trumpet that would be used to announce the news of peace. As I am aware that Chairman Lee has personally experienced the pain of the Korean War as a veteran, so much inspiration was received through his words and actions.”
Going along with the lyrics of “Arirang of Peace,” it was like seeing the blueprint of a new era and “entering the new world of peace” that is without war and terrorism.
Arirang Performance performer Jiyun Ahn
Q. With what kind of heart did you prepare for this performance?
“I had many thoughts about what kind of heart I should be preparing for this performance with if things became hard or difficult. However, as I watched my teammates and everyone, including myself, preparing for the performance for the sake of peace and not for personal gain or pleasure, my heart became ever more eager for peace and I worked even harder while practicing.”
Arirang Performance performer Hyunji Kang
Q. Can you please introduce the performance that we will see from this Arirang Team?
“Our performance is a concert called Arirang Fantasy of Peace. It is a performance that expresses the idea of a peace that does not discriminate anyone, even though nationality, race, culture and religion may all be different. It brings together a traditional Korean song with traditional instruments, dances martial arts and other elements showing a harmonized global village full of excitement. This concert is apeace festivalthat represents the global village that will live in harmony and create peace.
It is during the performance of Ganggangsullae(강강술래), a traditional Korean dance, in the Arirang of Peace where one of our team members steps across the connected backs and shoulders of the others. This clearly demonstrates how a beautiful reality of peace is achieved through the combined sacrifice and effort of everyone involved.
Therefore, during practices not even one person could think selfishly, but instead had to willingly lend their back and shoulders. So, we carefully practiced with the mindset that I myself must hold hands and create peace along with everyone else.”
The World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (3rd WARP) Summit, which was first held in 2014, has been held annually inSeoul. Each year, influential people from all around the world meet in South Korea. Political, social, and religious leaders as well as experts from youth and women’s organizations, civil society actors and the press gathered to discuss practicalways of achieving peace. Also at the stadium, the peace festivalis held! IPYG’s card-section performance, a peace parade, various art performances, and speeches were proceeded. Substantial results of HWPL are supported by a large number of planning team members and volunteers.

Card performance Design Planning Division Yejin Yang
Q. What purpose and content did you plan in thins card performance?
“The reunification of the Korean peninsula was also a subject of this year’s event, which was held for the cessation of war and world peace. So, I planned a card performance containing this message in order for all guests watching to feel how much the people of Korea desire unification and world peace through this card section.”
Card performance training Leader Yeongkwang Lee
Q.What kind of hear are you working with?
“Many people from overseas come to attend this event, and their impressions of, and tears shed for, our performances are very exciting and moving for us. I’m truly grateful to be doing this work because the guests who watched the performance returned to their home countries boastingabout our performance. It makes me think that I am doing the most valuable workin my life by delivering this message of peace.”
Interpreter(German/Romanian) Eugeniu
Some years ago, “I met this organization and I started to work as an interpreter. Since then, I followed his work and always reading the webpage to follow every step that Chairman are talking to realize this great cause. So I was following his steps to understand more and more what is all about, and what is he going to say and to understand what is next step and which direction will this world go.”
Interpreter Protocol Kaylee
“As working as protocol, I am partnering Prof. Dr. Hans Koechler, and he also finds the Chairman’s vision very important at this time. I was reading many of his works and seeing many of his researches, and I saw that most of the things he spoke about were actually the same things that HWPL is also interested in.”
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease usually caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). The classic symptoms of active TB are a chronic cough with blood-containing sputum, fever, night sweats, and weight loss. Tuberculosis is spread through the air when people cough, speak or sneeze. The problem is that one-third of the world’s population is thought to be infected with TB. Being infected does not mean that you get tuberculosis. About 30 percent of the people who contact become infected and 10 percent of the infected people become tuberculosis patients, while the remaining 90 percent of the infected people stay healthy. More than 95% of deaths occurred in developing countries.
Tuberculosis treatment : 4 First line drugs
Ethambutol(EMB)
Pyrazinamide(PZA)
Isoniazid(INH)
Rifampin(RIF)
Action mechanism, Characteristics, side effects
Ethambutol, Pyrazinamideand Isoniazid inhibit the synthesis of cell wall. Mycobacteria has NAG-arabinogalactan and mycolic acid. Ethambutol inhibits the synthesis of NAG-arabinogalactan. Pyrazinamide inhibits FAS-1 and Isoniazid inhibitsFAS-2. Synthetic mechanism of mycolic acid composed of FAS-1 and FAS-2. Rifampin combines with ‘DNA dependent RNA polymerase’ to inhibit translation. Side effect of Pyrazinamide,Isoniazid and Rifampin is ‘hepatotoxicity’. Particularly, Isoniazid inhibits cytochrome-P450 and hence acts as a source of free radicals. So we should beware Drug-Drug interaction. It is not difficult. 🙂
“Stopping TB requires a government program that functions every day of the year, and that’s hard in certain parts of the world. And partly it’s because of who tuberculosis affects: It tends to affect the poor and disenfranchised most” – Tom Frieden
What the era is it now? North Korea is constantly threatening with nuclear weapons, and there are still wars everywhere around the world. Someone’s family dies, and those who survive are screaming. On November 25th, 1,200 social representatives gathered at the “1st Peace Conference of Religious Leaders in Southeastern and Southwestern Regions for the Reunification of Korea” Their purpose is to discuss spreading a culture of peace and preparing action plans for the peaceful unification of the two Koreas in Daegu Metropolitan City, South Korea. Although peaceful events are considered to be a good cause, it is easy to criticize them for being only symbolic. But No need to worry!
Practical and substantial HWPL
It is because HWPL which hosted this conference has been evaluated as a practical and substantial peace group. It is understandable even though you know a little bit about their movements. Chairman of Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) which is under the UN ECOSOC and the organizer of this conference gave a message. Chairman Lee proposed the formation of a civil society network at the global level, as well as the legalization of the 10 Articles and 38 Clauses of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) and the World Alliance of Religions’ Peace Offices(WARP Office).
“We are one nation and one people. Why is it that we cannot step on our own land? I also cordially ask all citizens to become peace messengers to achieve international peace as a whole.” – Chairman Lee
Social & Religious leaders cryout
At the conference, Gi Woong Son, President of the Korea Institute for National Unification, advised that we should open the eyes and ears of the people in North Korea with the values of freedom, democracy, human rights and welfare. Emphasizing the role of civil society, he said “Consistent efforts for reaching North Koreans through humanitarian approaches including religion, culture, art, sports and the environment should be carried out. These areas can avoid transferability of capital misused for military capabilities of the North.”
Ven. Bup Ryun, chief priest at Kumdang Temple, pointed out that religious leaders are responsible for leading the work of peace and that one way of engaging in such a task is through HWPL’s World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Offices which promote the collective peacebuilding efforts by religions. “Now is the timereligious leaders stand at the frontfor peace, a long-cherished wish of all humanity. The wall blocking religions will collapse as a result of our effortsof understanding based on a comparative study of religious scriptures.”
In May 25, 2013 The Declaration of World Peace was proclaimed.
In Sep 16-19, 2014 World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Summit
ln Sep 18-19, 2015 Convention on the Renunciation and Cessation of War and International Armed Conflicts
In Nov 12-13, 2015 Committee meeting convenes to draft the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War
In March 14, 2016 New international law was proclaimed by HWPL International Law Peace Committee(more info). It was called DPCW(Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War). (DPCW is here)
Now ‘Legislate peace campaign‘! Since then, 705,000 signatures in more than 170 countries
I heard some good news from home country. 1,000 foreigners attend and get medical treatment and counseling at the sites ofmedical servicesconducted at a total of 25 districts. For them, a total of 250, medical team such as doctors, oriental medical doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, physical therapists and preliminary medical staffs such as college students went into service and volunteer interpreters and 2,000 staffs participated. Most of them who receive the services are legal foreign workers, but some day workers failed to sign up for health insurance. It means they can’t get proper treatment for medical bills.
Those who live from hand to mouth can’t afford to go for hospital, if they are not seriously ill.
Meaning of Medical services
Workers at the factory also spoke their mind that it was difficult to visit hospitals because of tight working hours and language barriers. I feel sorry that we can not solve all these problems at once. The medical team provided counseling and medical checkup such as blood sugar, blood pressure, body composition and physical therapy. Foreign workers suffered from musculoskeletal system disease a lot because most of them are doing physical labor. Last year, they discovered colon cancer as treating a worker from Bangladesh. I hope that the service which have good intentions is nottransient. Of course, I am very thankful for their services.
Attention and emotional support
A chimney with fire inside
What foreign workers who have been discriminated due to their country and race need most isattention and emotional support. The volunteers are also counseling them to have healthy thoughts and minds, not only doing medical services. The medical team leader said, “Many foreign workers are doing simple labor. So their health has deteriorated often for lack of proper treatment. They are deeply wounded by national or racial discrimination. We need a lot of attention to respect their rights to live and human rights.” I suggest cultural performance to be able to melt down the heart. It can amuse them.
“The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease” – Voltaire
The poor soul sat sighing by a sycamore tree, sing all a green willow: Her hand on her bosom, her head on her knee, sing willow, willow, willow. (William Shakespeare) The willow tree! You maybe know its health effect. It is known for at least 2,400 years ago. Aspirin, also known as acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), is a medication used to treat pain, fever, or inflammation. It is a sort of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
Aspirin action of mechanism
Aspirin inhibits COX-1&2. COX(Cyclooxygenase) makes ‘Arachidonic acid’ become ‘Prostaglandin(PG)’. PG induces ultimately your fever. It plays a role in pain, fever, swelling. If aspirin inhibits COX, we can’t produce PG. So it works. Anti-inflammation is not the only effect of Aspirin. It also helps cardiovascular disorders. Why? It related COX-1&2. COX-1 makes TXA2(thromboxane A2) and COX-2 makes PGI2(Prostacyclin). TXA2 activates platelets to aggregate and induces vasoconstriction. But Prostacyclin is a thrombolytic vasodilator. Is it in collision with? Nope. Low dose of Aspirin only inhibits COX-1. So it can be helpful.
Aspirin in cancer prevention
There are many studies that Aspirin is effective against cancer. Is it a cure-all? But for a decade, they didn’t know how it worked. On 1 January 2017, Researchers from Oregon Health & Science University and Oregon State University found that Aspirin doesn’t affect cancer cell, but affect platelet. Owen McCartysaid “During their transit in the blood, circulating tumor cells interact with platelets, which spur tumor cell survival by activating oncoproteins such as c-MYC. The inhibition of platelets with aspirin therapy reduces this signaling between platelets and tumor cells, thus indirectly reducing tumor cell growth.”
Educationis a powerful and effective source of human development, as specified in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Have you ever experienced the power of education? Have you ever seen their changes? Or have you ever experienced your changes? Education is closelyrelated to change. What should the Education do? In order to protect and further enhance the priceless legacy of peace from great wars and consequent sacrifices, education must guide students to understand values such as human dignity, equal opportunity, democracy, etc.
Article 10 Spreading a culture of peace
Peace Academy
The students who received peace education from HWPL are creating this place into a world of peace as “messengers of peace”. The HWPL Peace Academy teaches Peaceof Mind based on dignity of Life. It is the best education that every human being is more valuable than the whole universe, isn’t it? How great DPCWParade is!
“HWPL’s peace education ensures that the youth acquire knowledge and skills needed for the promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence.”
Peace Education of HWPL
117 schools from 8 different countries (as of July 2016) voluntarily became HWPL Peace Academies. The designated Peace Academies announce the Statement of Resolution and their future plans to incorporate peace education into their curriculum. It will teach about HWPL’s peace initiatives. HWPL’s comprehensive approach to education allows teachers and students to embrace the values of human rights, intercultural and interreligious understanding, and tolerance. It is really needed for global leaders who want to reconcile. Whether you get the peace education or not makes fundamental difference. It depends on you.
“It would be better to live long~ But this year, our old man is dead. I should be dead~” One grandmother, terminally ill with lung cancer(Stage 4) said. I’m a medical student. Since doctors stood at the crossroads of life and death, It seems to think more about ‘death‘. Anyone, who are sentenced to death by disease, has no choice but tosob deeply. Frankly, the death is difficult to deal well with for whoever. When I stay at patient’s room, I can see all kinds of religions, Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Hinduism, Muslim, Atheism, Irreligion. They are so in fear of death. But I’m helpless. I can’t help them. I only can prolong their life for a few year. Everything is because of ‘Ignorance‘.
Beware of false knowledge
The reason we are enveloped by fear for death is ‘Ignorance‘. Not only we didn’t know death well, but also we didn’t really think about it. You can think “What can I do if everything I believed is wrong?” or you want to believe you’re right. But you must keep in mind “Beware of false knowledge. It is more dangerous than ignorance.“, George Bernard Shaw said. If you know exactly, the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32) You can feel relieved. In the Christian world now, everyone knew that ‘If people die, immediately they live in heaven or hell forever.’ Have you ever have a question? If so, what should our ancestors who died before the spread of the Christian faith do? It is so unfair. Is it God unfair? Nope. Maybe, I’m wrong.
