HWPL DPCW chairman Lee     As growing attention by the inter-Korean summit, the wind of peace is blowing all over the world. It is to be followed by the highly anticipated North Korea-US summit. In Sweden, there is also peace movement by Korean international NGO. On May 14, the Religious Leaders Conference was held with participants from Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. Its purpose is to discuss the further development of inter-religious dialogues for peace-building.

It can be “bridge-builders of peace”

“Everything that religious leaders discuss at the WARP Office must clearly be based on what is written in the scripture, which needs to be comprehensively analyzed and studied for the true alliance of religions. We have to gather all religious scriptures and work to define a trustworthy scripture with a legitimate standard. The word is invisible, but it does a lot of work. Scriptures play a significant role in the alliance of religions,” said Chairman Lee.

It started from “World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Offices”, with 218 locations in 124 countries. HWPL has carried out this peace project to find the role of religion in peace-building through comparative studies on scriptures. There was a lot of talk and lot solutions came up. As one of solutions, HWPL is currently hosting Religious Youth Peace Camps globally as a means of developing interfaith reconciliation, so young people can experience peace as a common value permeated in all religions. Starting with Cambodia in April of last year, the camp was later held in India, Lithuania, Myanmar, and the Netherlands to assist the youth in learning about the culture and spirit of different religions.

HWPL DPCW chairman Lee Organized by the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) affiliated with HWPL, the “Positive Change for Tomorrow” was held at the Nobel Museum on May 15. It is to recall the history of peaceful exchanges between Korea and Sweden, from the time when the Swedish Red Cross Field Hospital was dispatched during the 1950s Korean War to the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NNSC) in 2018.

Prof. Carl-Henrik Heldin, Chairman of the Nobel Museum in Stockholm delivered the congratulatory message, “It is Nobel‘s spirit that makes the advancement of mankind’s skills in science, literature and medicine contributes to a better world. Sweden and Korea, and further the vision of IPYG working for peace are synonymous with the spirit of Nobel. I hope that this event will be a great opportunity to bring peace on the Korean peninsula.”

Mr. Man Hee Lee of HWPL expressed his gratitude to these Swedish efforts and noted that Sweden as a neutral country and the Republic of Korea as a ceasefire country should cooperate more for the sake of peace in the world. “Who can bring about peace while we stand still? By putting an end to war, a world of peace can be established. It is our responsibility to establish a world of peace as a legacy for future generations, which is the very task of every one of our global family members.”

But these leaders are different. Why do they compare? 80% of the war is religious war. So, religious leaders intend to unite religion with responsibility. They are gathered at this Online WARP Office Meeting.

Why Youth?

In particular, in conflict areas such as Iraq, Palestine and Afghanistan, young people and citizens is holding a peace walk with an earnest will to realize peace amid terrorism and war.

The Declaration of world peace, which was proclaimed on May 25, 2013 by HWPL, has called for the youth of the world to become the messenger of peace. Also, it suggests that we need the international law (DPCW) that can end the war. Why youth? The youth is the biggest victims of the war.

A STEP TOWARDS PEACE World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW) for Harmony World Interfaith Harmony Week WARP OFFICE UN Harmony Week UN Skype Nariman Abdulla Ali King Abdullah Iraq IPYG HWPL Religious Youth Peace Camp HWPL Halabja University Gwangju     World Interfaith Harmony Week is a UN resolution for a worldwide week of interfaith harmony. It was proposed in 2010 by King Abdullah II and Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad of Jordan. The World Interfaith Harmony Week falls in the first week of February of every year and aims to promote harmony between all people regardless of their faith. Personally, I think the aims and ends of everything are really so cool. When it looks different from reality, I feel skeptical and helpless. On the other hand, I’m relieved to know there are others who strive to make the world better place without a stop. What should I choose? I have to fight.

It is essential to resist forces of division that spread misunderstanding and mistrust especially among peoples of different religions. The fact is, humanity everywhere is bound together, not only by mutual interests, but by shared commandments to love God and neighbor. What we are proposing is a special week, during which the world’s people, in their own places of worship, could express the teachings of their own faith about tolerance, respect for the other and peace.” – King Abdullah

HWPL shares the mutual goal with the UN to promote harmony and understanding between all people regardless of their religion. So it has operated the World Alliance of Religion’s Peace (WARP) Offices and HWPL Religious Youth Peace Camp. The WARP Office meetings is the series of interfaith dialogue based on each scripture(more info). The HWPL Religious Youth Peace Camp was held for the first time in the Middle East in line with the UN Harmony Week on 7 February, 2018. The title is “Let us achieve peace by understanding each religion”. The camp was co-hosted by HWPL and the President and Dean of Halabja University in Iraq. About 200 attendees including religious leaders coming from Christianity, Islam, and KaKai, and university representatives gathered at the Halabja University. In Gwangju city of Korea, 90 members of the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) participated in the camp through Skype. I’m looking forward to the future of these youth. 🙂

I think this camp is a true way to spread peace and religious coexistence and educate students and young people to know what religious coexistence is and how to apply. I hope this project may be extended to hold camps and other meetings. We at Halabja University are very eager to do this” – Dr. Nariman Abdulla Ali, Dean of College of Human Sciences

“Building a World of Peace”
HWPL’s mission is to bring wars not to a temporary halt but to a complete end, and to create sustainable peace in the current generation. For this goal, HWPL is working through a global peace network to advocate the DPCW, promote religious harmony and prevent interfaith conflicts, and spread a culture of peace through education, press, and civil society, all in accordance with the principles set out in the DPCW.

“Realizing Justice”
Justice is the ultimate ideal of law and essential condition for peaceful coexistence. Through the DPCW, HWPL aims to establish an international legal instrument that contains provisions concerning international cooperation, respect for international law, freedom of religion, and spreading of a culture of peace, as the basis for building a world of peace.

The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will be held in February next year. This video above is made for public relations. Its concept is highly acclaimed at home and abroad. It started from background that ‘AIs were defeated after a 10-year battle with humans’. Heroine main character is the last AI left in this world. Her name is ‘K 2018020925’. What does she do? She studied deeply ‘why humans won‘. What does she find? Emotion! Passion, sadness, joy, love. All of these appeared at a time in the feast, ごちそう, fiesta, 잔치(Janchi). They make the connection between the Seoul 1988 Olympics, the 2002 World Cup and 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. The meaning is that Korea gave thanks to nations who helped Korea and this peaceful janchi united all into one. The keyword is ‘Peace‘.
