The 4th Annual Commemoration of the 2018 HWPL World Peace Summit was held in South Korea from the 17th to the 19th of September. This year, thousands of leaders and citizens from around the globe will gather for 3 days with the great determination of creating a peaceful world together. Under the theme of “Collaboration for Peace Development: Building a Peace Community through the DPCW”, the wind of peace is blowing all over the world. This 918 WARP Summit is the core of HWPL’s peace movement. The main agenda of the WARP Summit will be the introduction of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) to the United Nations (UN) as a binding resolution. Today, I will introduce the WARP Office.

Alliance of Religions

Discussing the spirit of peace written in scriptures
to step forward onto the road of world peace

Religion is returning to its original role in restoring peace. The WARP Office was established to resolve conflicts and misunderstandings among religious groups. The Chairman Man hee Lee‘s clear religious guidelines lead religious people in the right direction today.

The Chairman Man hee Lee said, “If religions are in harmony with each other, there will be no reason to fight. To achieve harmony among religions, people of religion should examine and compare their scriptures to find the truth and become one in that truth. People of religion are responsible for leading people of the world in the right path.”

In the WARP Office, leaders from various religious groups gather to discuss religion and the Bible. It is being held in major cities around the world. The purpose of this comparative study of religious scriptures is to return religion to its original role and become one religion according to the creator’s will. The WARP Office promotes understanding and harmony among many religions in the world for the peace of mankind.

One religious leader emphasized, “We should support the WARP Office discussions, as the significant link and the great network for the worldwide religious institutions and spiritual leaders, to show the cooperation and solidarity of all religious leaders, and to send the message of tolerance, peace and unity to all people around the world.”

The Story of WARP Office

Seeing the current status of the religious war, HWPL thinks the solution of peace. ‘How can we make it?’ The answer they found is the Scriptures. Because it represent the accumulation of not only the spiritual and moral teachings of the respective faiths, but also a fundamental standard of human conduct.

Why Scripture? Although the common objective that all religion is the great things, these messages are often overlooked by people. Because religious people fight with each other first. They showed hostility and started a war. So peace is becoming an elusive concept. So HWPL approach towards the root cause of this hostility between faiths, defined as the misunderstandings that arise from the misinterpretation of these scriptures. Eminent religious experts recognized it as an ‘Innovative Approach’. The alliance of religions is the earnest hope of all humanity.

Spreading throughout the world

The World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Office Meetings began from the World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Summit in 2014 where representative leaders from 12 religions, along with 950 participants, signed the Unity of Religion Agreement. At that time, the WARP Office Meeting was established and it has been actively practiced worldwide since then. In the short three years from its official beginning, the WARP Offices have seen rapid expansion with 218 offices now operating in 126 countries. With approximately 2,500 representative religious leaders as participants, it enhanced the level of understanding of various religions.

Do you know what culture was created? Religious leaders want to seek true peace-building and harmony among religions based on correct understanding. And they dedicated themselves to thoroughly researching what a “trustworthy scripture” should contain.

91 percent of all religious leaders agreed that the following six attributes, 1) Good and Evil, 2) Birth, Aging, Sickness and Death, 3) The Spiritual Realm, 4) Cleansing of Sins, 5) History and Genealogy, and 6) Prophecy and Fulfillment

Religious Youth Peace Camp

The aim of the HWPL Religious Youth Peace Camp is to engage youth and youth organizations in dialogue and conflict transformation activities based on inter-religious and inter-cultural learning.

Camp participants learn about the general history of world religions, find the root cause of and plausible resolutions to religious conflicts and disputes, examine the religious community’s roles for peace, and experience cultural exchanges.

1&2 HWPL Intercontinental Online WARP Office

On 24 March 2018, the first Intercontinental Online WARP Office Meeting was held. The topic of this WARP Office meeting was “What is the root of evil and how can we eliminate evil? Where does it come from? How can we eliminate it according to your respective religion?” The religious leaders, who participated in meeting, were specially selected as outstanding leaders at worldwide. It made it easy for anyone to be able to see and participate in audience questions by broadcasting their discussion. It is also designed to promote WARP offices to religious societies and civil society, and to spread the culture of seeking truth.

One Netherlander said, “It is amazing that people from different religions can meet and communicate with each other about peace. I think peace and harmony of religions can be achieved as we continue to do this work.”

How many wars are there in history?

Of the past 3,400 years, humans have been entirely at peace for 268 of them, or just 8 percent of recorded history. There are 12,703 battles since 2500 B.C. (created by a Dutch company LAB1100) Explore the map here. At least 108 million people were killed in wars in the twentieth century. Estimates for the total number killed in wars throughout all of human history range from 150 million to 1 billion. War causes universal misery. Wars made internally displaced people, refugees and casualties. “There was never a good War, or a bad Peace.” (Benjamin Franklin) “Who can compensate for the death of the youth? A Country? Afghanistan (7 October 2001 – present)

Growing political tensions and infighting has created an increasingly volatile environment in Afghanistan. This conflict started on 7 October 2001. In the past 16 years, al-Qaeda and Taliban government was destructed. Osama bin Laden was dead. Despite the fact that Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was killed by a drone strike in May 2016, the group has regularly launched relentless attacks around the country. Adding to the instability, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has continuously attempted to establish the foundation in Afghanistan.

• Total killed : 154,481+
• Civilians killed : 31,000+
• Wounded : 47,773+ (wikipedia)

Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) (1999 – present)

ISIS causes a major obstacle to peace not only in Iraq and Syria but also in Libya, Yemen and Afghanistan. Within the past year, the group has launched some of its most deadly terrorist attacks outside of the Middle East region, including in Bangladesh, Belgium, France, Germany, Turkey, Pakistan and the U.S. It’s hard to measure due to global terrorism, but the U.N. estimates ISIS is responsible for more than 18,000 civilian deaths in Iraq in the past two years alone.

Syrian Civil War (15 March 2011 – present)

Now in its sixth year, the Syrian Civil War has created one of the most dire and complex humanitarian crises on earth. Recent reports put the death toll at 470,000, with more than one in ten Syrians having been wounded or killed. An estimated 8 million Syrians have become displaced within the country, and another 4.5 million have sought refuge in neighboring countries and beyond.

• Internally displaced : 7,600,000 (July 2015 UNHCR)
• Refugee : 5,116,097 (July 2017 UNHCR)

Yemeni Civil War (2015 – present)

In 2014, Houthi rebels took control of the capital Sana’a and a large portion of northern Yemen. President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi and his cabinet fled to neighboring Saudi Arabia, where a Saudi-led coalition was formed to counter the Houthi rebellion. The Yemeni Civil War started. It is a humanitarian catastrophe. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) estimates that 14.1 million civilians are dangerously close to starvation.

• Child died of hunger : 50,000+

Boko Haram Insurgency (2009 – present)

The jihadist rebel group Boko Haram started an armed rebellion against the government of Nigeria. It want to establish an Islamic state based on Sharia law and has spread to Niger, Cameroon and Chad. Nigeria was also targeted in the infamous Chibok schoolgirls kidnapping in 2014, in which about 270 girls were abducted. Boko Haram now controls up to 20 percent of Nigeria and continues to violate human rights and leave millions without access to food, water, shelter or medical care throughout the entire Lake Chad region.

When does the War end?

Approximately 210,000 Afghan, Iraqi, and Pakistani civilians have died violent deaths as a direct result of the wars. (As of March 2015) This is not just a number. I’m sitting in front of the computer, tapping on the keyboard, but it’s not just a number. It is a very vivid death in their lives, and they are my family, my father, my mother, my sister, and my brother. But there is no need to despair that the war will not end. Because there are people who have the answer to peace. It is recognized by numerous experts as a strong and practical peace movement. It is the HWPL! HWPL is a really hot peace group to worldwide foreign news these days. Let me introduce an anecdote.

The Chairman Man hee Lee of HWPL asked, “People who are gathered here, is there any want who want war?.”

No one answered. The Chairman Lee continued that “War sacrifices many lives and destroys many buildings. If there is anyone who wants war, please raise your hand.” With silence–, no one raised their hands. The Chairman Man hee Lee shouted strongly, “When there’s war, who is the one who is fighting in front of battle line that is the youth. We are born in the same world, same generation, but their lives cannot blossom, but their lives are lost in the battle!”

The Chairman Lee continued, “Now, we need to make a peaceful world to live. And when we inherit peaceful world to our future generation, nothing would be more valuable. That is why we need to urge all of our presidents. We need to urge them for the world to become peaceful sooner. I’m not saying something wrong. Am I? We have to make our world, our global village being paradise. This is our duty. And, this is what we have to do.” Everyone gave a standing ovation.

The War is over at the 918 WARP Summit

Suddenly, the building just fell on us

Total death count in Syria : 450,000
Death of children : 50,000
Syrian child who need help : Over 2,000,000

There are 100,000 children trapped in eastern Aleppo. They account for half of all casualties. This is a generation born into war. Many children are now orphaned and left to survive alone. Over 2 million Syrian children are in desperate need of help, as starvation becomes a weapon of war. (UN, Jan 2016) Syrian children are starving and freezing in the cold. They are desperate for any small amount of food and warmth.

Q “How long have you been without food?” A “Seven days”

Q “How long has Hana (7-month-old) been without milk?”
A “A month. Every 10 days I give her some water and salt.”

Suddenly, the building just fell on us. Oh my god, all my children are gone! I was heartbroken looking at her facial expression. I think I can do something. There must be something. I don’t care if I’m complacent. It would be better to try a little more. I hope we can do something to stop the expected massacres. We can’t just sit still.

Me : “What’s your problem?”
A child : “I want to ask you for something but I feel ashamed.”
Me : “Go a head, say it”

A child : “Uncle, we haven’t eaten for the past 3 days and I just wanted to ask you if you can give me some food to give my little brothers… Only if you can.”

Have you ever killed anyone?

This video starts with this question, “Do you remember the first time you killed someone?” They answered, “we played war and stuff like that but you know, it’s never real.”, “You always learned that when someone died, it was, it was something that was detrimental.” and “I know it’s not right, it’s not right to do this, but I have to. If I focus about all this stuff, in one minute if I focus, I lose my mind. but I never focus about this stuff.” This is really serious. They were continuing to rationalize themselves. Because they are so afraid of facing the death. They murmured ‘They’re not real people, they’re just targets.’ He felt, “If there’s a hell, that’s probably what it smells like there. It penetrates you and it just won’t go away for a long time. It’s horrible.”

A veteran : I just, I felt sorry for them, but, no personal guilt, no.
I felt very compassionate and I was thinking about, you know his girlfriend, his family, whatever. Both have families and children probably and, you know.

How long should we wait? We can’t stand it anymore. It is so hard and painful. My family and friends are dying. Who can compensate you for their death? To Whom? What can you do? Money never can pay it back. Nothing can repay this!

HWPL Peace Education can achieve Dictionary without ‘War’!

“Before the discussion, students hit each other. They never used to love one another or care what other children are going through. But after the discussion on empathy, they could see the necessity of why we should have empathy. I actually felt the concept of empathy was sinking into these children.”

Having dedicated 17 years to teaching, Mr. Mathias Kevin Osimbo, the In-country Representative of Teachers Without Borders in Kenya, offers unique insights into peace education as one of the many educators who have implemented HWPL’s peace education in their classrooms.

The results were beyond surprising:

“I picked students from the group, peace club, in my school. When the members came, we picked one of the values, ‘empathy’. As the students discuss about this, they came up with their own ideas and definition of what empathy is. Some of them were too emotional and they were shedding tears as they were sharing their life experiences.

Let me tell you there was a change afterwards. Before the discussion, students hit each other. They never used to love one another or care what other children are going through. But after the discussion on empathy, they could see the necessity of why we should have empathy. I actually felt the concept of empathy was sinking into these children.”

How can we achieve peace? Peace begins by teaching students peace. Teaching peace from a young age in all textbook, not war heroes and stories, is a source of great change as fundamental solution. If the word war is removed from the dictionary by peace education, culture of peace will prevail in the global community and war will no longer occur. Peace education is one of HWPL’s core initiatives and values education to pass peace on to posterity. HWPL Peace education focuses on developing peace education courses, teacher training, and opening peace classes to enlighten students and foster citizens of peace value and spirit. In order to end the war and leave eternal peace as a legacy for future generations, we need to teach the values needed for a new era of peace rather than the old war-stained ideology.

A STEP TOWARDS PEACE HWPL Peace Education can achieve Dictionary without ‘War’! Teachers Without Borders messengers of peace Man Hee Lee internalization of peace values HWPL Peace education HWPL empathy DPCW Chairman of HWPL This education provides a fundamental understanding of the basic principles that human beings must observe for peace to be created. Through the discovery and internalization of these peace values the inner selves of students and their ability to live together in harmony with others in their own community, and even the world, is properly nurtured. In order to successfully cultivate children and young people as messengers of peace, HWPL Peace Education first works to erase previously held ideas and values that are corrupt by directly showing how the world has become evil in the present era, and then plant the peaceful values needed for the new era of peace in their stead. It also introduces a new methodology in which the values of peace can be applied in all environments and real-life situations happening outside the classroom.

Currently, 149 educational institutions in 10 countries including the Israel, the Philippines, the U.S. and the Kosovo have been signed up to operate the HWPL Peace Academy in from elementary schools to universities.

The culture of peace is the best homework that we all have to do together and the greatest legacy that we can pass on to future generations. HWPL Peace education will create a peace culture. 🙂

This is not a place for anyone. This groundbreaking summit brought dignitaries, civil society, youth, religious leaders and media from across Africa together. Who are they and why are they gathered? They are really nice people. If you are one of African people, you will be really impressed. They have been working hard towards fulfilling the goal of the conflict-free continent envisaged by the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and Silencing the Guns 2020. Also, they supported the DPCW (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War) as the ultimate solution of conflict.

On August 15, the “Ethiopia Peace Conference” was held with education experts and civil society. The “Addis Ababa Summit” was held with political representatives from Africa and the Middle East and the “Open Dialogue with Religious Leaders” was held on on August 16. One expert said, “Addis Ababa city administration has a deep conviction that the launching of peace education in the Universities could help ” As a result, eleven university presidents signed an MOU to agree on peace education at their universities. Another expert said, “DPCW draws upon the principles of peace expressed through the ages, through which the people of the world expressed their desire for global peace and called upon world leaders”

The Chairman Man hee Lee said, “One era is fading and a new one is beginning. Will this be achieved by sitting around? No. In Korea, we hosted a World Alliance of Religious Peace (WARP) summit to discuss the DPCW. We want to proposed it to the UN.” Existing laws cannot achieve peace. “To achieve peace, we must complete peace with the spirit of that moment when the United Nations begins.”

The wind of peace is very strong worldwidely

As you can see from my postings so far, the whole world is cheering for messengers of peace. As if to prove it, more than 300 media outlets in 35 countries are promoting it just a short time after the African Leaders of Peace Summit 2018. At this time when the DPCW is gaining national support, the wind of peace is very strong all over the world. HWPL is considered by experts to be the most substantive and powerful peace organization ever. I feel also that HWPL could really be able to achieve peace. And this thinking is becoming increasingly convincing. I would like to introduce the core of the HWPL‘s peace movement.

At the UN, two-thirds of presidents must vote in favour of this law. This is why I travel from place to place to urge presidents to accept the law.

AFRICA PRAY for PEACE & RELIGIOUS FREEDOM: Uniting Against Coercive Conversion #1

Africa prays for the World

What is the world like now? Jungle? Heartless modern society? Of course, it is. But I heard there are people who pray for the world. In fact, I have been having a hard time these days. In the news, murders, accidents, and crimes are never stopped, and What if I become a target of crime? Whenever I think of this, I pray. Today I saw this YouTube clip, when this fear was coming. What were they doing? They were praising. Also they danced and danced. They danced for themselves. Don’t care others, and It seemed happy to get together. The dance with beat was very natural. It was not fancy. But The Liveliness of Africa!!! They shared the prayer points, joined hands and prayed together.

PRAYER POINTS

For The World and the Continent

America – China, Europe etc.
Effects will be global (Economic, Socio-political)
Rain – countries facing the droughts
Just governments – promoting people’s rights, freedom and responsibilities. Entrenching equality and security for all
Strife – created by greed, hate, religious intolerance and political rivalry, consequently creating refugees and resistance movements.

All the leaders of Africa Gathered

The ministers of all denominations and all the leaders of this community came together to bring peace. They said, “This is a historic moment!!! It is really so amazing!” (The master of ceremony made a bit of a fuss) They cried out “Please bring peace to our community! Please bring peace to our country!” Peace seems to be so precious to them. So, what is the current flow of the world?

The international community is paying keen attention to the establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula because of the 2018 inter-Korean summit and the US-North Korea summit. When the North Korea’s Kim Jong Un and South Korea’s Moon Jae-in met for the first time, the whole world was moved and shed tears. There is also a highlight video on CNN. (http://www.peacestep.com/2018/05/09/resolving-conflicts-between-north-and-south-korea/) Kim Jong Un wrote “a new history begins now” and “an age of peace, at the starting point of history.”

But suddenly clouds are gathering on the horizon. President Donald Trump sent an official letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to cancel the summit. President Trump said he knew the anger and public hostility of North Korea’s recent remarks. Especially, he said “You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used.” This was a warning remark. However, the US-North Korea Summit was held!

Who is the hero of peace? Real Peace?

Some say that North Korea is the winner, the U.S. is the loser&winner, and South Korea is the loser. However it is clear that the Moon Jae-in is the midwife of the US-North Korea Summit in many ways. Mr. Moon persuaded Chairman Kim to engage himself in dialogue with the U.S. President Moon persuaded Chairman Kim to engage himself in dialogue with the U.S. By turning all the credit to President Trump, Mr. Moon made him an active participant in the North-Korea USA Summit. Bill Clinton, former president of the United States assessed it “Moon Jae-in the president is a true hero”. In the process, President Moon left a famous saying in Korean diplomatic history that “the Nobel Peace Prize is for Trump and we only need to bring peace.”

But the nation could not protect its people

The President Moon Jae-in said, “When the nation fulfills its role, the people can live without losing hope. The reason for a nation to exist is to reassure its people. It will protect them in difficult times. In order for a single person to live like a decent human being as a citizen in the Republic of Korea” But the government has turned away from their desperate appeal. Earlier this year, an adult woman in her 20s died on a family trip. There was a hidden secret in the family trip. Its purpose is for coercive religious
conversion program, not real travel. Sadly, the late Ms. Gu was choked by blocking her mouth and nose at 5:40 p.m. on December 30 2017.

South Korea is a country where freedom of religion and thought is guaranteed by the constitution. But it was a sad event in which she was killed by her beloved family during a coercive conversion program, just because she was not a member of the mainstream religious body. Unfortunately, these conversion programs have happened and continue to increase.

The victims of coercive religious conversion program are 1,000 people and 77.4 percent of the victims suffered extreme trauma

According to Human Rights Association for Victims of Coercive Conversion Programs(HAC), The victims of coercive religious conversion program numbered about 1,000 from year 2003 to 2017. 96 victims were confirmed in the first half of this year alone. In a survey of 900 people from 2003 to March 2015, 52 percent claimed they were imprisoned, 42 percent of the victims were taken to coercive religious conversion program by kidnapping. It was even reported that 10 people were hospitalized in psychiatric hospitals for not being converted. More seriously, their pain didn’t end there. 77.4 percent of the victims felt extreme fear caused by a violent environment. And 65 percent of the victims suffered from mental disorders and stress due to the coercive conversion program process and the environment.

Humanity India : Who Will Lead India’s NEXT?

Peace, the unique value of humanity

– On June 18, India, Who will lead India’s next 20 years?-

5th Annual Commemoration of the Declaration of World Peace(DPCW) was carried out in India. ‘Peace, the unique value of humanity’ was held on June 18 in India. In this event, the representatives of civic groups gave addresses referring to the necessity of improvement of awareness of peace and solutions of conflicts for Humanity India. And around 150 participants wrote supporting letters for the implementation of the international law for peace.

Dr. M U Dua, President of All India Human Rights Association, said, “Wars and conflicts have broken out because of interest and pursuit of profit, and we cannot stand further sacrifice from them. Lots of people in India pay attention to the efforts put on peace. Who will lead India’s next 20 years? It’s you. Let’s become one with HWPL, IPYG, and IWPG which work with the solutions for peace, protect ourselves from wars and conflicts, and leave culture of peace as legacy for future generations.”

If leaders have love for the world, nations, and people, they must come together to work for the establishment of international law for peace

Humanity India : Solution of Peace

Responding to the necessity of establishing a legal framework to eradicate disputes or armed conflicts, HWPL proposed the ‘Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW)’ which embodies the value of the ‘Declaration of World Peace’, as a solution of World Peace. Volunteers and citizens from various countries including the U.S, Sri Lanka, India, China, France as well as Afghanistan and Palestine, the disputed areas, gathered for activities such as peace walk, peace letter writing, and signing campaign for international law for peace.

“Many leaders in many parts of the world showed their support for peaceful unification of Korea. We received ‘peace letters‘ that support the idea from students and youth in the countries we visited. By liquidating the past of pointing guns to kill each other, Korea should stand as a country of peace. I am certain that, as all humanity desires peace, the Korean Peninsula and globe will indeed see peace,” said Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL.

Religious Leaders Conference in Sweden

As growing attention by the inter-Korean summit, the wind of peace is blowing all over the world. It is to be followed by the highly anticipated North Korea-US summit. In Sweden, there is also peace movement by Korean international NGO. On May 14, the Religious Leaders Conference was held with participants from Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. Its purpose is to discuss the further development of inter-religious dialogues for peace-building.

It can be “bridge-builders of peace”

“Everything that religious leaders discuss at the WARP Office must clearly be based on what is written in the scripture, which needs to be comprehensively analyzed and studied for the true alliance of religions. We have to gather all religious scriptures and work to define a trustworthy scripture with a legitimate standard. The word is invisible, but it does a lot of work. Scriptures play a significant role in the alliance of religions,” said Chairman Lee.

WARP Office All over the world

It started from “World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Offices”, with 218 locations in 124 countries. HWPL has carried out this peace project to find the role of religion in peace-building through comparative studies on scriptures. There was a lot of talk and lot solutions came up. As one of solutions, HWPL is currently hosting Religious Youth Peace Camps globally as a means of developing interfaith reconciliation, so young people can experience peace as a common value permeated in all religions. Starting with Cambodia in April of last year, the camp was later held in India, Lithuania, Myanmar, and the Netherlands to assist the youth in learning about the culture and spirit of different religions.

Korean Youth thanks to Swedish People

Organized by the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) affiliated with HWPL, the “Positive Change for Tomorrow” was held at the Nobel Museum on May 15. It is to recall the history of peaceful exchanges between Korea and Sweden, from the time when the Swedish Red Cross Field Hospital was dispatched during the 1950s Korean War to the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission (NNSC) in 2018.

Prof. Carl-Henrik Heldin, Chairman of the Nobel Museum in Stockholm delivered the congratulatory message, “It is Nobel‘s spirit that makes the advancement of mankind’s skills in science, literature and medicine contributes to a better world. Sweden and Korea, and further the vision of IPYG working for peace are synonymous with the spirit of Nobel. I hope that this event will be a great opportunity to bring peace on the Korean peninsula.”

Mr. Man Hee Lee of HWPL expressed his gratitude to these Swedish efforts and noted that Sweden as a neutral country and the Republic of Korea as a ceasefire country should cooperate more for the sake of peace in the world. “Who can bring about peace while we stand still? By putting an end to war, a world of peace can be established. It is our responsibility to establish a world of peace as a legacy for future generations, which is the very task of every one of our global family members.”

If the current international law is perfect, we didn’t legislate an international law. All young men want peace, not war. Everyone should agree this international law proposed in the UN.

Not bring peace to someone who stand still. We have to make peace. If incumbent presidents aren’t doing works of peace, future generations would have a bone to pick with presidents. In Peace! We Are One!

Guatemala National Palace : Man Hee Lee laid White Rose on Palm of Peace

National Palace : “Center of Guatemala“

Guatemala National Palace was constructed by President Jorge Ubico and started in 1939. It took four years to build and at a relatively low cost, since prisoners were forced to work in the projects for a measly 0.25 cents a day, back when Guatemala’s currency had the same value as the dollar. It was the most important building in Guatemala and was the headquarters of the President of Guatemala. The building is the origin of all the roads in the Republic. It is now a national museum.

The Palm of Peace : Why constructed?

This bronze statue, sometimes called “The Palm of Peace” is in the courtyard of the National Palace, on the site of the signing of a peace to end Guatemala’s 36-year-long civil war in 1996.

The Guatemalan Civil war ran from 1960 to 1996. It was fought between the government of Guatemala and various leftist rebel groups supported chiefly by ethnic Maya indigenous people and Ladino peasants, who together make up the rural poor. The government forces of Guatemala have been condemned for committing genocide against the Maya population of Guatemala during the civil war and for widespread human rights violations against civilians.

The White Rose : Symbol of Peace

This statue represents two left hands reaching up, representing each side of the conflict and to signify a sincere truce between the two sides. The 16 interlocking arms signify the Guatemalan people, locked in arms, determined to sustain peace and liberty, the big rock which the arms lift up.

They have a tradition concerning peace and a symbol of peace, the White Rose. To celebrate another day of peace in their country and the ever-fresh peace process, at about 11:30 AM, the Army Honor Guard, changes a white rose that has been placed on a monument in the court yard with another fresh white rose. The day old white rose, symbolizing 24 hours of peace, is then given to a guest of the country in a ceremony, held within the court yard.

I’m Korean. So I want to say my feelings. I was very surprised at this news. I know very well about Ban Ki-Moon. Everyone knows him, aren’t you? Because he is the secretary- general of the United Nations. He is a public figure. But what is it? Who is the ‘Man Hee Lee‘? He is just a civilian like us. But He is in rage with the great figures. It’s so amazing!!! Don’t you wonder what he did?

It is a non-profit, non-governmental organization which was founded in 2012. HWPL is working in conjunction with the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) and the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG). IWPG has 97 branches around 40 other nations!!! IPYG has 2.4 million people in 96 nations!!!

Its purpose is achieving world peace and the cessation of war.

How do we achieve it?

HWPL‘s SOLUTIONS are ‘International Law for Peace and Cessation of War‘ and ‘Alliance of Religions‘. It has been said to be the greatest groundbreaking and substantive solutions for peace.

Is it all talk? No : The Mindanao peace agreement

It’s a real. Mindanao civil war for 40 years and 140,000 died. How do they make peace? He prayed to God before to go Mindanao.

He said “I won’t go if God don’t accompany me.” He called all the political leaders, religious leaders and citizens together in one place.

“Raise your hands!! If you want peace!!”, he shouted. Everyone raised their hands!!!! So two leader of Catholic and Muslim signed the peace agreement.

It gave me the chills. 40 years of Catholic and Muslim religious war was over. Wow. Guatemala give credit for this big event.

After 2 years, 10,000 people are in line to greet the HWPL, they established ‘HWPL Day’ on March 14th and they erected the monument. I was deeply moved by this news. 🙂 Many things are happening all over the world. Peace is not just their problem. ‘PEACE’ is up to you. Good luck!! 🙂
