DPCW, an international law for Syria

Heartbeat, a song for Syria

Heartbeat, a song for Syria’ is sung by 10-year-old Ansam, a Syrian girl who was born blind. The song was written and composed by Zaid Dirani, Unicef Goodwill Ambassador, and world-famous pianist. It has a message of hope that Syria’s children want to get back their childhood. It’s like the voices of children shouting around the world. Amazingly, the video was filmed in Syria. The following are the lyrics of Heartbeat: (abbreviation)

‘Amid destruction and fire, our wound is deep
We want to say it loud, but our voice is weak
We may be children, but our cry comes from the heart

We want to say it loud: everything is possible
Together we can hope
Our hearts beat back to life
We want our childhood back’

Statistics about the Syrian civil war

Unicef, 2016

  • At least 652 children were killed – a 20 per cent increase from 2015 – making 2016 the worst year for Syria’s children since the formal verification of child casualties began in 2014.
  • 255 children were killed in or near a school.
  • More than 850 children were recruited to fight in the conflict, more than double the number recruited in 2015. Children are being used and recruited to fight directly on the frontlines and are increasingly taking part in combat roles, including in extreme cases as executioners, suicide bombers or prison guards.
  • There were at least 338 attacks against hospitals and medical personnel.

It is a bottom-up approach for global peace through establishing an international peace law. The strength of the DPCW lies in its representation of the voice of all those yearning for peace, calling on States to protect their rights to enjoy peaceful lives. The Legislate Peace Campaign is operated all over the world to support the DPCW. Now, they collected 734,055 signatures (as of October, 2017) and 173,170 people of 176 countries participated. The HWPL & DPCW are regarded by experts as the most powerful and substantial peace movement than others. Foreign media around the world are also paying attention to HWPL.

Legislate Peace Campaign

Dear family members of the global community,

The history of our world is replete with the tragedies of war. When wars break out, ordinary citizens, especially the youth and young adults, are forced out to fight on the battlefields and mothers must send their children into danger. In most instances, neither the youth nor their mothers would willingly suffer such loss and sacrifice. We are all born into the same world; and we live on the same land, under the same sky. All of us have the right to live in a war-free world in peace. And this right should be protected by law.

It is for this reason that we, the world's youth, women, and messengers of peace, support the Legislate Peace Campaign, an advocacy movement in support of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW) being developed into an enforceable law. When such a law is implemented and enforced in all countries, wars will have no place on Earth and a culture of peace will finally be able to spread to all corners of the globe. We call on world leaders and governments to acknowledge the principles set out in the DPCW and to incorporate them into their national laws.

We must take action to achieve the global enjoyment of peace. Please join us in supporting the Legislate Peace Campaign to guarantee peace for all.

Let us Legislate Peace. Sign Your Support.

The War is over at the 918 WARP Summit

Suddenly, the building just fell on us

  • Total death count in Syria : 450,000
  • Death of children : 50,000
  • Syrian child who need help : Over 2,000,000

There are 100,000 children trapped in eastern Aleppo. They account for half of all casualties. This is a generation born into war. Many children are now orphaned and left to survive alone. Over 2 million Syrian children are in desperate need of help, as starvation becomes a weapon of war. (UN, Jan 2016) Syrian children are starving and freezing in the cold. They are desperate for any small amount of food and warmth.

Q “How long have you been without food?” A “Seven days”

Q “How long has Hana (7-month-old) been without milk?”
A “A month. Every 10 days I give her some water and salt.”

Suddenly, the building just fell on us. Oh my god, all my children are gone! I was heartbroken looking at her facial expression. I think I can do something. There must be something. I don’t care if I’m complacent. It would be better to try a little more. I hope we can do something to stop the expected massacres. We can’t just sit still.

Me : “What’s your problem?”
A child : “I want to ask you for something but I feel ashamed.”
Me : “Go a head, say it”

A child : “Uncle, we haven’t eaten for the past 3 days and I just wanted to ask you if you can give me some food to give my little brothers… Only if you can.”

Have you ever killed anyone?

This video starts with this question, “Do you remember the first time you killed someone?” They answered, “we played war and stuff like that but you know, it’s never real.”, “You always learned that when someone died, it was, it was something that was detrimental.” and “I know it’s not right, it’s not right to do this, but I have to. If I focus about all this stuff, in one minute if I focus, I lose my mind. but I never focus about this stuff.” This is really serious. They were continuing to rationalize themselves.  Because they are so afraid of facing the death. They murmured ‘They’re not real people, they’re just targets.’ He felt, “If there’s a hell, that’s probably what it smells like there. It penetrates you and it just won’t go away for a long time. It’s horrible.”

A veteran : I just, I felt sorry for them, but, no personal guilt, no.
I felt very compassionate and I was thinking about, you know his girlfriend, his family, whatever. Both have families and children probably and, you know.

This groundbreaking summit brought dignitaries, civil society, youth, religious leaders and media from across Africa together. Who are they and why are they gathered? They are really nice people. If you are one of African people, you will be really impressed. They have been working hard towards fulfilling the goal of the conflict-free continent envisaged by the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and Silencing the Guns 2020. Also, they supported the DPCW (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War) as the ultimate solution of conflict.

The “Addis Ababa Summit” was held with political representatives from Africa and the Middle East and the “Open Dialogue with Religious Leaders” was held on on August 16. One expert said, “Addis Ababa city administration has a deep conviction that the launching of peace education in the Universities could help ” As a result, eleven university presidents signed an MOU to agree on peace education at their universities. Another expert said, “DPCW draws upon the principles of peace expressed through the ages, through which the people of the world expressed their desire for global peace and called upon world leaders”

The Chairman Man hee Lee said, “One era is fading and a new one is beginning. Will this be achieved by sitting around? No. In Korea, we hosted a World Alliance of Religious Peace (WARP) summit to discuss the DPCW. We want to proposed it to the UN.” Existing laws cannot achieve peace. “To achieve peace, we must complete peace with the spirit of that moment when the United Nations begins.”

The wind of peace is very strong worldwidely

As you can see from my postings so far, the whole world is cheering for messengers of peace. As if to prove it, more than 300 media outlets in 35 countries are promoting it just a short time after the African Leaders of Peace Summit 2018. At this time when the DPCW is gaining national support, the wind of peace is very strong all over the world. HWPL is considered by experts to be the most substantive and powerful peace organization ever. I feel also that HWPL could really be able to achieve peace. And this thinking is becoming increasingly convincing. I would like to introduce the core of the HWPL‘s peace movement.

At the UN, two-thirds of presidents must vote in favour of this law. This is why I travel from place to place to urge presidents to accept the law.

Journalists Who Change the World

Why? I wonder why, too. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) says at least 81 reporters were killed and violence against media soared last year. Also, more than 70 media companies were closed in Venezuela. Also, the Guardian reported that “Global press freedom plunges to worst level this century” mainly due to government censorship, crime targeted at journalists and financial pressures associated with the growth of the internet. What do you think we should do? They are not frustrated. They want to respond to such challenge and turn it into an opportunity. So, some journalists around the world in collaboration with an international NGO have been seeking ways to enhance press freedom through the international media network and peace journalism in relation.

HWPL : Where should we go?

A STEP TOWARDS PEACE Journalists Who Change the World World Peace World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Summit the Guardian the duty of journalism the Conference for Global Peace Media Network Restoration of Light journalists international NGO International Federation of Journalists IFJ HWPL Heavenly Culture flow of journalism dailytrust change my future In 2017, Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), said in a statement recently that it formed a series Media Forums to establish a working group of journalists around the world. Why? It want to research the flow of journalism globally and redefine the duty of journalism.

On September 17, 2017, at the World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Summit, “the Conference for Global Peace Media Network – Freedom of the Press and International Peace Media Community Initiative” was held with 100 journalists from 50 countries around the world. What is important is that the establishment of media agencies concentrating on peace can raise public awareness, and more and more journalists should participate in delivering news of peace and settlement of the conflict rather than conflict itself. I sincerely ask journalists to change my future.

Who can play the most important role in making a world of peace without conflicts? It depends on journalists. If journalists dedicate themselves to peace-building efforts, thoughts of people especially politicians will change. So we have high expectation in journalism – Chairman Lee of HWPL

There are at least two things that I know. First, on December, 2016, 1.7 million people gathered in Candlelight rally, Seoul. Nationwide total is 2,320,000 people. It reminded me of William Shakespeare’s one quote that “How far that little candle throws his beams!”. The world was surprised by peaceful assembly culture and mature civic consciousness. People say “A STEP TOWARDS PEACE PyeongChang 2018 Olympic : Keyword is Peace Yuna Kim WARP OFFICE The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games The last AI PyeongChang2018 peaceful assembly culture Peace4Me Peace Olympic Peace Academies OlympicTruce mature civic consciousness HWPL DPCW Candlelight rally candle of peace 3rd WARP Summit 2017 Don’t hit anyone even by flowers” The video said ‘The candle of peace lit has been carried over to the PyeongChang Olympic Torch and conveyed all over the world.’ I really love this sentence. Here is my posting.

HWPL  was acknowledged for substantial and practical way to achieve peace. I am very proud of these Koreans. Their slogan is “Together for peace as messengers of peace” Why could human not cease war? The solutions of HWPL are ‘Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War(DPCW)’ and ‘The World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Office’.

And 117 schools from 8 different countries (as of July 2016) voluntarily became HWPL Peace Academies. In the short three years, the WARP Offices have seen rapid expansion with 218 offices now operating in 126 countries.

Together We Make a Difference

The World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (3rd WARP) Summit, which was first held in 2014, has been held annually in Seoul. Each year, influential people from all around the world meet in South Korea. HWPL  was acknowledged for substantial and practical way to achieve peace. Actually, people who come to the Peace Festival are all moving. They can feel ‘Peace waves‘, which also be called ‘the heart of peace’, deep down in the heart. This time, I introduce ‘Peace parade‘ and finale ‘Arirang of Peace‘ performance. The peace parade showed how global peace is being achieved in accordance with the 10 articles and 38 clauses of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War.

“In the case of the tank, a key point to take notice of is how the cold and lethal weapons of death are transformed into agricultural tools that help people and give them joy. So, it becomes a world where there are no longer any weapons that kill people. In the case of the unification train, it shows how the unification of Korea, which is the world’s only divided nation, is able to give hope.

This is symbolized by the creation of a unification train which would allow people to go anywhere, not caring whether it is in South or North.”

“During the proclamation of the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War, Chairman Lee of HWPL stated that we must not create weapons that are to be used for war any longer, but instead should transform them into tools that are beneficial for humanity. These ideas have been a great inspiration for my work.

So, the main gun on the top of the tank was replaced with a golden trumpet that would be used to announce the news of peace. As I am aware that Chairman Lee has personally experienced the pain of the Korean War as a veteran, so much inspiration was received through his words and actions.”

Going along with the lyrics of “Arirang of Peace,” it was like seeing the blueprint of a new era and “entering the new world of peace” that is without war and terrorism.

“I had many thoughts about what kind of heart I should be preparing for this performance with if things became hard or difficult. However, as I watched my teammates and everyone, including myself, preparing for the performance for the sake of peace and not for personal gain or pleasure, my heart became ever more eager for peace and I worked even harder while practicing.”

“Our performance is a concert called Arirang Fantasy of Peace. It is a performance that expresses the idea of a peace that does not discriminate anyone, even though nationality, race, culture and religion may all be different. It brings together a traditional Korean song with traditional instruments, dances martial arts and other elements showing a harmonized global village full of excitement. This concert is a peace festival that represents the global village that will live in harmony and create peace.

It is during the performance of Ganggangsullae(강강술래), a traditional Korean dance, in the Arirang of Peace where one of our team members steps across the connected backs and shoulders of the others. This clearly demonstrates how a beautiful reality of peace is achieved through the combined sacrifice and effort of everyone involved.

Therefore, during practices not even one person could think selfishly, but instead had to willingly lend their back and shoulders. So, we carefully practiced with the mindset that I myself must hold hands and create peace along with everyone else.”
